Annual FMCSA Trailer Inspections for Tankers, Vans and Flatbeds

Trailers need their own DOT annual inspection, separate from the tractor pulling them. WTS inspects tank trailers, dry vans, reefers and flatbeds to the FMCSA Appendix A standard, applies the decal, and keeps a copy of the report on file for your fleet. Annual inspections start at $150.

Types of Trailers

Tank trailers (including Polar, Heil, Brenner, Tremcar and LBT), dry vans, reefers, flatbeds, step decks and pneumatic dry bulk trailers.

Safety Standards

For tankers we can combine the annual inspection with DOT cargo tank testing so the trailer is only out of service once.

What a Trailer DOT Inspection Covers

A trailer inspection centers on the running gear, the coupling and the structure that carries the load. Our technicians check every item on the federal list and flag anything close to out-of-service limits so you can fix it before a roadside check does.

Brakes

Trailer air brakes, ABS lamp and wiring, slack adjusters, drums, linings, gladhands and air line condition.

Technician sorting trailer hardware on a fender-mounted toolbox

Tires

Tread depth, sidewall and inflation on every trailer tire, plus wheel fasteners, hubs, seals and bearing play.

Coupling, Suspension and Lights

Kingpin and upper coupler, landing gear, springs, air bags, hangers, frame and crossmembers, rear impact guard, conspicuity tape and every lamp and reflector.

Benefits

A current inspection decal on every trailer keeps your fleet legal at scales and roadside checks and catches brake, bearing and suspension wear before it strands a load. Trailers that sit between hauls are the ones most often caught out of date, so many fleets have WTS inspect them on a rolling schedule. Your tractors need their own inspection as well; see our semi truck annual inspection page.
